It is wonderful what a few weeks can do. Banchas are made of large, tougher leaves. As the season wears on, the chemical composition of the leaves changes. By the time the Bancha harvest begins, the smoother-tasting polyphenols in the leaves have been replaced by harsher ones, and the leaves have lost amino acids that create sweetness and body. Bancha yields a grassier, lighter-bodied tea. Bancha, a brew that is light and enriching, is a wonderful choice for a cup of traditional green tea.

Jeju Sejak comes from the volcanic island of Jeju, located off the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula. The island is known for its dramatic landscape, with a prominent volcano and national park at its center, surrounded by lush green tea fields that sweep up the hillsides. Korean tea has a long and storied tradition, and this sejak-grade tea sits in the middle of the quality spectrum, harvested just after the prized first flush. Like Japanese Sencha, the leaves are steamed to preserve their vivid green color, but while Sencha is pressed into flat, needle-like leaves, Jeju Sejak has a beautiful, slight curl. The result is a light, approachable cup with soft vegetal flavors and a clean finish. For those who enjoy our Japanese green teas and are curious to explore something new, this tea is a wonderful place to start.

Ceylon Vintage Silver Tips is a rare white tea with a flavor that's light, sweet, and sublime. A Harney & Sons exclusive, this tea is plucked and made just for us from the terminal buds of tea bushes grown high in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). They are handled with great care, so the bud remains whole and becomes silvery. Since there are no leaves, the flavor is different from traditional tea.

An exquisite flowering tea, Jasmine Fairy Maidens comes with a hidden surprise. Remove it from the package, and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were brewing a plain bundle of lightly aromatic green tea. Add less than boiling water, however, and watch as the bloom unfurls into a blossom with a center of fragrant jasmine flowers and delicate silver-green leaves at the base. Enjoy the gentle flavors and sweet aromas on a special occasion or as a treat after a long day.

Li Shan is known as one of the best oolong teas globally, originating from one of the highest mountainous regions in Taiwan. The tea plants endure cold temperatures, occasional snow, and frequent mists, contributing to the creation of a rare and delightful brew with hints of honey and cream. Li Shan is one of Taiwan's newer high mountain (Gao Shan) tea-growing areas, situated in the central mountain region. Special machines are used to roll the tea into balls, whereas in the past, the leaves were bent using the feet of robust workers. This tea is widely regarded as one of the finest oolongs in the world.

This is a shou, or "ripe," Pu-Erh from Yunnan Province, the region in China where the first tea plants were found. Shou Pu-Erh is set apart from sheng, or raw, Pu-Erh by its fermentation: the leaves are piled and kept warm and moist, a method the Chinese call "wo dui," which accelerates an aging process that would otherwise take years. The result is the mellow, earthy character that gives Pu-Erh its reputation. What makes this one distinctive is its form. Rather than the flat cakes or bings most of our Pu-Erhs arrive in, this tea is pressed into small nests called "tuo cha," each one a single serving that opens up over several infusions. The starchy, rice-like notes soften with each steep, giving way to something deeper and more full-bodied.

When most people think of African tea, they picture bold, brisk black teas built for breakfast. African Antlers turns that expectation on its head. This rare white tea hails from the Satemwa estate in Malawi, one of Africa's most storied tea-growing regions, and is made primarily from dark, silvery twigs and buds, giving it a strikingly unusual appearance even among white teas. The result is a cup that is light-bodied and deeply golden, with a gentle sweetness and a soft, peachy warmth that lingers long after the last sip. We were captivated the moment this tea crossed our path, and we're proud to offer it as something truly unlike anything else in our collection.

From Provence, France, comes Tilleul, a light and lively blend of the linden tree's fragrant flowers and leaves. The naturally caffeine-free herbal is prized for its subtle floral quality as well as its mild digestive and sleep benefits. The flowers and tender leaves produce a light, woodsy brew as beautiful as its taste in a mingling of forest-like green and yellow; that's all part of the charm.

Please note: We will be packing this in a cut leaf due to availability issues.

Every tea has a story, but few are quite like this one. Years ago, at the Amba Tea Estate in the hills of central Sri Lanka, all tea produced there belonged to the owners. But some of the women who picked the leaves had other ideas. They would pluck the tea and carry it back to their huts, where they processed it by hand with a large mortar and pestle to roll and oxidize it, creating a brew that was crude yet strong and entirely their own. They were called "thieves."

Today, that tradition lives on in a tea that is anything but crude. Amba Thieves Tea is handmade in the same spirit, and you can see it in the leaves: irregular, broken pieces that look nothing like machine-processed tea, because they aren't. The cup is brisk and lively, with bright citrus and dark honey notes and a medium body that sits lighter than most Ceylons. It takes milk and sugar willingly, though it's lovely on its own. Your purchase of Amba teas helps support the livelihoods of the Sri Lankan men and women who make them.

This is an excellent matcha. It is a blend from Joyo, just south of Uji, Japan, and surrounding areas. It is considered a thick matcha, meaning it has sufficient umami that provides sweetness and mouth-filling flavors, so you can whisk more matcha into less water for a thick, smooth bowl. That is appreciated in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.

If you like Matcha, this might be an interesting alternative. You make it similarly: Add one or two scoops into a bowl and whisk it into a foam. Many people enjoy the roasted tea stem flavors.

Elyse's Blend is the namesake tea created for the lovely mother and daughter of the Harney family. With doubly wonderful results, we blend tippy Assam and Kenyan teas with smooth Kenilworth Ceylon, then sweeten them slightly with honey flavors.
