Lychee has been one of our most cherished flavored blacks for good reason. Brigitte Harney has long been a fan of the lychee fruit’s unmistakable fragrance and is thrilled we’ve found a wonderful source during our travels to China. This tea blends the essence of sweetness with a smooth black tea to create a cup that's gently exotic and deeply aromatic. Enjoy it hot to appreciate the full bouquet, or steep it strong and pour over ice for a beautifully refreshing brew.
Mutan White comes to us from China, where white teas have long been prized for their gentle character and minimal processing. The dry leaves are green and white, and once brewed, they yield a pale yellow cup that resembles warm water, which is precisely the point. This tea is dried slowly, and that allows for just a bit of oxidation. White tea oxidizes by patience, not by machine, like black teas.
The aroma is the star here: fresh and softly sweet. The body is light (consider it the opposite of a rich, malty black tea), and the cup as a whole is clean and uncomplicated. With a medium caffeine level, it sits in a comfortable middle ground, present without being pushy. It does have higher levels of theanine, the amino acid that gives it a mouth-filling body. And since it has the buds, it's sweeter than most teas.
We recommend brewing Mutan White at 175°F for four minutes. Higher temperatures can turn delicate white teas bitter, so a bit of patience with the kettle goes a long way. It's a good introduction to white tea for those new to the category and a reliable, low-key pleasure for those who already know their way around it.
Japanese Whisky belongs to a small but growing tradition of Japanese black teas, a departure from the country's better-known green tea craft. What sets this one apart is the smoking process, which draws on the same peat character that defines Japanese whisky making. Peat, the partially decayed plant matter harvested from bogs, has long lent its earthy signature to distilled spirits, and here it finds a second life in the teacup. The result is a black tea that borrows the vocabulary of the still without ever leaving the pot. For those curious about how far a black tea can wander from convention, this is a worthy pour at the end of the day.

Harney & Sons created RMS Titanic Blend as a tribute to the tragedy and heroism of A Night to Remember. P. H. Nargeolet, one of the divers with the French exploratory group at Woods Hole in Massachusetts when the Titanic was found, encouraged John Harney to create a commemorative tea to honor the 100th anniversary of those who perished when the Titanic sank. John created this special blend to reflect the quality of tea that was served on that voyage. It features Chinese Keemun, one of the last teas from China that the British still consumed in 1912. By then, they had mostly shifted to black teas from Assam, India, and Ceylon. The blend also includes Formosa Oolong, which was popularized in both the UK and the US by an enterprising Brit. This blend would have been recognizable to tea lovers of that era. A portion of the sales of our RMS Titanic Blend tea will go to The Ocean Conservancy, the dedicated organization committed to preserving our planet's oceans. We hope you will enjoy this tea and "remember."
In the northeastern corner of the Fujian Province of China is the coastal city of Fuding. This is the hometown of white tea. This is where the commercialization of white tea began.
In the hills outside of Fuding, the fields are full of the special tea cultivar called Da Bai or Big White. The name is apt. These tea plants form fat buds, thickly coated with down. The plant stockpiles goodness in the bud, for it is the plant's future. Inside the tiny silver needle are extra sugars, polyphenols, and even extra caffeine. The downy fuzz is made up of trichomes, which help the immature bud to survive this cold, cruel world. After the buds are painstakingly plucked by hand, most teamakers put the buds in a barn and let them slowly dry out.
This subtly sweet tea can be appreciated in a cup, or you can drink it like the Chinese and float a spoonful into a clear glass of hot water. Watch the buds slowly sink in the water. It can be very therapeutic.

Ti Quan Yins are some of China's most famous teas. They are from Southern Fujian Province, and it was in these hills that teas were first rolled into small balls. That allowed the teas to slowly oxidize and slowly develop these great flavors.
Lung Chings are famous worldwide and are known as some of the best Chinese green teas. Our Lung Ching is made by a respected producer two hours beyond the traditional area. The small green leaves make for a brew that has a mild and sweet, almost nut-like flavor. Lung Ching teas are often in demand, so the price is dictated by the market.
HarSha is a black tea blend Mike developed as a fulfilling breakfast tea. It is a blend of extraordinary broken tippy Assam to give body and depth and muscatel 2nd flush Darjeeling to add a little dark fruity flavor. HarSha is a Hindi word from India, meaning "bliss." Mike thinks you will agree.
