Shop Teas Tea Type
Wenshan Baozhong is made by the Cheng family, who have been crafting Pouchong-style oolongs in Taiwan for over a hundred years. Their home is PingLing, a genuine tea town north of Taipei, complete with tea restaurants, a tea museum, statues honoring the pluckers, and streetlights shaped like teapots. The village sits within a nature preserve full of gardenia flowers, which feels fitting given the character of the tea grown here. Baozhong is only lightly oxidized, placing it at the greener, more floral end of the oolong spectrum. Each year we return looking for the same thing from the Chengs: a lightly twisted leaf that captures the gardenia spirit of its home. This year's lot delivers.
Rou Gui is a Wuyi rock oolong, grown in the mineral-rich soils of the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian, China. It comes from the same rugged range that produces the famous Da Hong Pao, where tea bushes root among the cliffs and boulders that give this style its "rock" character. Rou Gui itself is a named cultivar, prized for the roasted fruit notes that develop through Wuyi's traditional charcoal firing. Medium in body and moderately brisk, it sits comfortably in the toastier, more roasted end of the oolong family. We're glad to offer it again, and to give the leaves a second and third steeping, which is one of the pleasures of a good Wuyi oolong.
Seven Fairy, an exquisite flowering tea, comes with a hidden surprise. Remove it from the package, and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were brewing a plain bundle of lightly aromatic green tea. Add less than boiling water, however, and watch as the bloom unfurls into a blossom. Enjoy the gentle flavors and sweet aromas on a special occasion or as a treat after a long day.
On his first trip to Asia in 1996, Mike visited many tea estates. Chamraj was a very distinctive one, with a rhythmic rise and fall of brilliant green tea fields punctuated by lots of lovely flowers. He has kept his eyes open for tea from Chamraj ever since. This tea is representative of teas from Nilgiri and is a sister estate to Korakundah.
Deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Kichwa people have brewed guayusa for centuries, drinking it together before dawn as part of a daily ritual they call "the night's knowledge."
The leaves come from a tree in the holly family, making this a true tisane with no relation to Camellia sinensis. What it shares with tea is the caffeine: guayusa contains naturally elevated levels, more than most teas, without the bitterness that can come with it. We came across it through the young American importers bringing it north.
For those who already reach for our Yerba Maté, Guayusa offers a close cousin with a slightly smoother disposition and a story rooted a little deeper in the forest.

Until very recently, Yerba Mate Mint was a secret blend found only in our shops. An old employee, Hill, created it as a trial several years ago. By popular demand, we are now offering it to our online customers as well. It's a fun blend of caffeine-free mint with caffeinated Yerba Mate. Although Yerba Mate Mint is considered an herbal, it does contain caffeine. Sip this brew during long days at work or when you need to focus.*

Wait patiently as you brew your hibiscus tea and you will be rewarded with the tangiest of flavors and a rich, deep crimson liquid.
There is something very special about this tart herbal infusion which comes from the hibiscus plant, known for its large, showy, vibrant flowers, and exotic feel. With sharp notes of citrus and a floral sweetness, hibiscus tea is a caffeine-free way to keep warm through chilly months. Equally, if summer temperatures become too much to bear, serve over ice for a sharp, refreshing treat that is visually stunning with it's ruby hues.
Garden Party is the winner of our 2021 Happy Blendings contest. Customers submitted blend ideas, and Garden Party ultimately received the most votes from all our customers. This blend is inspired by summer parties in lush English gardens. Fruit flavors blend together atop tart rhubarb and green tea. Enjoy!
Kawane sits in the heart of Shizuoka Prefecture, partway up toward the Japanese Alps, where low-hanging clouds settle over the hillsides for much of the growing season. That mist matters more than it might seem: the diffused light slows the leaf's development, allowing theanine to accumulate and giving the tea its characteristic umami depth. This is the same storied valley where our Scent of Mountains sencha originates, and Mist of Kawane shares that terroir while offering its own quieter expression. Where Scent of Mountains is direct and confidently green, this one is softer and more restrained. The light steaming, just thirty seconds, keeps the larger leaves intact and preserves the more volatile aromatics that a deeper steam would drive off. The result is a pale, gentle cup with a lightness of body that rewards slow sipping. Brewing at lower temperatures (140-160ºF) keeps everything sweet and open.
Who would equate Colombia and tea? Most would not. However, we do have the advantage of having Elvira Cardenas as a tea taster, and she is a very good one. So, when she said someone in her country made good tea, we gave it a try. The company, named Himalaya, is located in the mountains of Colombia in the town of La Cumbre and honors traditional tea practices. We chose black and green tea. They are both quite tasty and worth a try.

When making green tea, the Japanese ensure that nothing is wasted. The tea stalks, which might be discarded in other tea regions, have been harnessed to make a pleasant tea. Since it is made from the stems and twigs of the tea plant, there is less caffeine, amino acids, and antioxidants to give flavor and added benefits to the brew. This tea has gained an ardent following in Japan, where it is enjoyed for its mellow flavor and low caffeine levels. It is also used in macrobiotic diets.
Imperial Windsor is a blend that we have done for the Royal St. George Society. The RSGS is a patriotic society in England. Roses are one of the many symbols of England, and so this strong black tea has rose petals sprinkled throughout. 10% of sales will help fund the Society’s good work.
Please note: The rose petals add a little floral flavor. This is a nice strong breakfast tea.
Amba Estate sits in the hills of central Sri Lanka, an old tea garden that Simon Bell and his partners have restored as an experiment in rejuvenating Sri Lankan tea making. We visited Amba and came away convinced it's a little gem. The estate is worked by a group of Sri Lankan men and women who make genuinely unusual teas by hand, hand-rolling the leaves in a way that yields a lighter, big-leaf cup. That handwork carries a mission, too: Amba is committed to empowering women in the tea industry, and your purchase helps support the livelihoods of the people who craft it. We buy a variety of teas from them, and we're proud to offer this one, made responsibly and with real care for the local community.
For centuries, Chaga mushrooms have been used in supplements to provide rich antioxidants and naturally boost immunity. We combined wild-grown Canadian Chaga with other powerful adaptogens like Ashwagandha root and crafted a new herbal infusion. The result is an earthy, toasty blend that is perfect for a moment of self-care. It brews up into a dark, earthy-tasting cup.
